ISO: De Vinne Press Archive

From the Contact form:

I am researching a book published by the De Vinne Press in 1888 and would like to know where the company archive is stored. I hope to find information regarding the designer of the binding, whom I suspect was a major Boston artist of the period.

  1. Try Columbia University (some personal papers) and the Grolier Club (family papers). I’m not entirely sure that the T.L. De Vinne & Co. company archives survived. Also, TLD did write about some of his books and you might some comments in the press of the time. The Columbia or Grolier librarians may be able to get you in touch with TLD’s biographer. (Note that they are closed now because of the PAUSE order in effect within NYS due to the coronavirus.)

  2. Thanks, Paul. When all this calms down (assuming it does) I will follow up on your suggestions.
