2015 APHA Annual Meeting
The 2015 Annual Meeting of the American Printing History Association will take place on Saturday, January 24 at 2 pm in the Trustees Room of the New York Public Library. Friends of the book arts past and present are urged to attend. APHA’s annual honorees will be present and make presentations:
The individual honoree is Paul F. Gehl, the George Amos Poole III Curator of Rare Books and the Custodian of the John M. Wing Foundation on the History of Printing at the Newberry Library, Chicago. Gehl has been Custodian of the Wing Foundation on the History of Printing since 1987 and has enriched that collection by his judicious acquisition of materials, exhibitions both of print & calligraphy, and sponsorship of public lectures on various aspect of the book. In doing so, he has also enriched the broader community of lovers of print, calligraphy and the book.
The institutional honoree is The Book Art Museum of Łódź, Poland. It has made an extraordinary contribution to the study, recording, preservation and dissemination of printing history in Poland over the last 35 years. In a country where fine printing and historic printing techniques were almost entirely eradicated under communism, the Book Art Museum in Łódź has taken on the important role of ensuring the continuity of the art of fine printing. They restore and preserve vintage printing equipment, cultivate printing skills, and perform outreach to the community. Jadwiga Tryzno, her husband Janusz, and their son Pawel will all be present.
Another important highlight will be the announcement of the annual fellowship award, which will assist a scholar in researching a topic in printing history.
The annual business of the organization will also take place, including election of a trustee, and reports from the president and treasurer.
A reception will follow.
