ISO: A Layman’s Book About the History of Printing

I am at the Tubac Presidio State Park in Arizona. We have a chance to create a small exhibit on the history of printing. Is there a good, not very technical book you would recommend we can reference? We need to impart general knowledge for the average museum goer.

    The first readily available titles that come to mind are Five Hundred Years of Printing by S.H. Steinberg, revised John Trevitt (1996) and A Short History of the Printed Word by Warren Chappell, revised by Robert Bringhurst (2000).

    You may also be interested in this monograph held in the special collections at the University of Arizona Library: The beginnings of printing in Arizona, with an account of the early newspapers and a bibliography of books, pamphlets, and broadsides printed in Arizona, 1860–1875 by Douglas C. McMurtrie (1937). Call number
